At EST Education, we offer a 1-1 mentoring programme which supports children and young people who are unable to manage in mainstream education. Our service promotes and supports emotional wellbeing and empowers our young people to feel happier, healthier and more able to cope with life’s challenges.
Using both the national curriculum and our own assessments, we create tailored, individualised interventions and learning plans, which support each child to develop essential skills such as resilience, confidence, improved mental health, and keeping safe; extending our focus beyond just academic achievements.
All of our staff are trained in trauma-informed practice; we adopt a nurturing, supportive approach that considers each individual need. We remember that our students “can’t, not won’t” attend school, and through direct emotional support and a positive role model and mentor, we support our pupils to feel more empowered and resilient, so that they, themselves can feel more able to cope with the challenges and pressures of everyday life.
Through our practice, we also address the current social and health inequalities within Salford, using the theory of social prescribing to support improved mental health, maximise opportunities for physical activity and promoting access to further support, once our support ends and children are able to access school independently.
